ADAPTING TO DIFFERENT LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS

Learning environments and learning preferences don’t always match up. If you ever experience a mismatch between your learning environment and your preferences, you can find ways to adapt to the situation. You’ll practice doing so in this journal entry.

Begin by describing your learning preferences. How do you learn best? Next, describe a situation in which you might have to learn, study, or interact with others using a less preferred approach. Feel free to imagine an academic-related scenario, a career-related scenario, or an example from your personal life (like learning how to calculate car payments, cook a new dish, or use a computer program). Finally, respond to the following questions:

97

  1. How could you think about this situation in a positive way?

  2. What things could you tell yourself?

  3. What personal supports or college resources could you use to adapt to the learning environment?

  4. Question 4.10
