ANTICIPATING ESSAY QUESTIONS

In college your instructors will probably tell you if an exam will include essay questions, but they likely won’t give you the exact questions in advance. So you’ll need to anticipate the types of essay questions you’ll see on the test. Let’s practice.

Question 9.16

Pretend you’ll be taking an essay exam on this chapter. Review the chapter and your notes, looking for important concepts that could be turned into essay questions. Then create one essay question using each of the following verbs: describe, summarize, explain, compare/contrast, critique, and outline. To get you started, here’s an example: “Explain how the test-preparation and test-taking skills presented in this chapter can be used in the workplace.”

Question 9.17

Finally, test yourself on chapter concepts by answering two of the questions you created.
