Journal Entry:
Making Time for Self-Care

Self-care is any activity we engage in to take care of our mental, emotional, and physical health. It could be a simple activity such as saying “no” to one more commitment, burning a scented candle, scrolling through iFunny, or taking a nap. It could also be a more involved activity such as joining a running group, reading a good book, having coffee with a friend, or listening to live music. Self-care can improve our mood, decrease stress, and recharge our batteries. When we take time out of our busy lives to focus on our own needs, we can then return to work, school, and relationships with more energy, focus, and motivation.

For this journal entry, reflect on the following questions:

  1. What does self-care mean to you?
  2. What do you do for self-care now, if anything? What would you like to do for self-care that you don’t currently do now?
  3. What are the barriers to engaging in self-care? How could you overcome these barriers to ensure you have time for these activities?
  4. Identify three things you’ll do next week for self-care.
