New hope for spinal cord regeneration Researchers are making progress in learning how to use stem cells to generate damaged spinal cord pathways. Ten-year-old Jesse Farquharson (shown with his therapy dog Hannah) is celebrating the 10th anniversary of experimental surgery at SickKids Hospital in Toronto, where he became their first patient to receive a stem cell transplant using banked blood from his umbilical cord.
