Finding the absolute threshold In a hearing test, faint sounds of varying frequencies and amplitudes are presented to one ear at a time. To find the absolute threshold for a given frequency, for a given ear, the sound is presented at decreasing amplitudes until the person cannot detect it, and at increasing amplitudes until the person can detect it.
