The left panel shows a 3-D reconstruction of Phineas Gage’s injuries, and the right panel shows the 3-D reconstruction of the injuries with the tamping iron in place. These reconstructions are based on a computerized tomography scan of Phineas Gage’s exhumed skull. As you can clearly see in the reconstructions, the cerebral injury was limited to the left frontal lobe, contrary to previous claims that both the left and right frontal lobes were damaged.
