Drafting and revising your introduction

Writing practice: Drafting and revising your introduction

You must click Submit after each text box on the page to record your work in your instructor's gradebook (if your instructor has assigned this activity). After you have clicked Submit, you may review your work (but you may not revise it) by returning to this page at any time.

Exchange drafts with a classmate and evaluate each other’s introduction. Ask your classmate to identify the strategy you have used to focus your draft and spark readers’ curiosity. You might have used a startling statistic, and unusual facdt, a question, a quotation, background information, the definition of a term, a statement of a problem, a vivid example, an analogy, or an anecdote. Is the strategy you used effective? If not, what other strategies might be more appropriate for your purpose, audience, and genre? Discuss how each of you might revise your introduction. Write notes below.
