Being a peer reviewer

Writing practice: Being a peer reviewer

You must click Submit after each text box on the page to record your work in your instructor's gradebook (if your instructor has assigned this activity). After you have clicked Submit, you may review your work (but you may not revise it) by returning to this page at any time.

Exchange drafts with two classmates, and practice using the following guidelines for peer review to help each other identify the strengths and limitations of your drafts:

  • Restate the main idea in your classmate's draft.
  • Ask questions about the structure, content, and strategies your classmate uses.
  • Give specific compliments, avoiding vague comments. State specifically what the writer has done well.
  • Give concrete suggestions for how your classmate might improve the draft.
