Guide to additional resources

LaunchPad Solo for Hacker Handbooks includes a robust selection of easily assignable, ready-made resources for the composition classroom. To access this material, click on “Browse Resources for this Unit” at the top of any chapter opener in the table of contents, or click on the starred Resources button in the control panel to the left.

Click on Content by type to view the library of publisher-provided resources. There you will find the following:

Exercises and LearningCurve activities

Nearly 300 practice exercises and 33 LearningCurve activities offer plenty of opportunity for practice with grammar, writing, reading, and research. The traditional exercises—270 of which are autoscored, reporting directly to your gradebook—offer feedback for correct and incorrect responses (so that exercises are a learning activity), and the LearningCurve quizzes adjust in difficulty level depending on individual performance.

Sample writing

More than 30 models, organized by genre, offer samples of student writing and projects from across the disciplines and in several citation styles. Instructors can add models of analyses, arguments, proposals, reports, reflections, and more to the units they build in LaunchPad Solo.

Tutorials and videos

An online library of tutorials and videos, fully assignable, gives instructors plenty of choice for supplementing class instruction. Tutorials address concepts such as paragraph development, citing sources, and solving problems with verbs and run-on sentences. Nearly 40 video items include author videos on argument, revising, and peer review—as well as other items on critical reading, organizing your writing, and seeking feedback.

Discussion Board

Instructors can add discussion boards to any unit or outside a unit. Discussion boards are useful in any case where you want to promote student discussion within LaunchPad. Try adding a discussion board to an assigned unit of readings and ask students to contribute their reactions to the reading material as a way to prepare for class discussion.

You can assign points to a discussion board as a way of giving credit for participation in discussions in LaunchPad.

Document Collection

Adding a document collection allows you to post course and assignment information directly to LaunchPad, including syllabi, rubrics, assignment sheets, and support documents.
