Fortune Magazine named Google the best company to work for. It’s no wonder, since human resources have been elevated to a science at the company’s Mountain View, California campus. The aim is to use analytics and data on worker productivity to create a “living laboratory,” testing everything from the impact of paint color to the variety of free foods available throughout the workday. Treadmill desks, nap pods and other perks may seem luxuries, but they are actually good for business. Google’s “People Operations department” places as much emphasis on studying the worker side of the company as its engineers do on the product side.
