Battling the Spaniards After the Pueblo revolt in 1680 drove out the Spaniards, the Pueblos established close contact with the Navajo people. In 1692 Spain reconquered the region, and skirmishes continued. This Navajo petroglyph (rock engraving) in Largo Canyon, New Mexico, records one such battle, with Spanish soldiers on horseback wielding swords.
