The Medley of Goods Sold by G. Duyckinck, 1769 This ornate advertising lithograph was intended to attract customers. The variety of goods listed here by one New York City merchant includes items, like glass and cloth, that were taxed under various parliamentary acts in the 1760s. As these taxes aroused protests, merchants had to decide which items to remove from their stock and consumers which items to boycott.
