El Centro Español This postcard shows El Centro Español in Ybor City, the cigar-making district of Tampa, Florida. Constructed in 1912, this facility served the Spanish community as a social club and mutual aid society. Immigrants attended dances, plays, and concerts and took English lessons, which eased their adaptation to a new homeland.
