Format an MLA paper correctly. You can now find software to format your academic papers in MLA style, but the key alignments for such documents are usually simple enough for you to manage on your own.
Set up a header on the right-hand side of each page, one-half inch from the top. The header should include your last name and the page number.
In the upper left on the first — or title — page, include your name, the instructor’s name, the course title and/or number, and the date.
Center the title above the first line of text.
Use one-inch margins on all sides of the paper.
Double-space the entire paper (including your name and course information, the title, and any block quotations).
Indent paragraphs one-half inch.
Use block quotations for quoted material of four or more lines. Indent block quotations one-half inch from the left margin.
Do not include a separate title page unless your instructor requires one.
When you document using MLA style, you’ll need to create an alphabetically arranged works cited page at the end of the paper so that readers have a convenient list of all the books, articles, and other data you have used.
