Résumés

A one-page résumé usually accompanies any letter of application you send for a position or job. The résumé gathers and organizes details about your experiences at school, on the job, and in the community. In some careers, you may recap years of work and achievements in a longer, but similarly organized, document called a CV (curriculum vitae).

  • image Applying for a part-time position at a local day-care center, you assemble a résumé that chronicles your relevant experience.
  • image For an application to graduate school, you prepare a résumé that gives first priority to your accomplishments as a dean’s list dual major in government and English.
  • image You modify your résumé slightly to highlight your internships with several law firms because you are applying for a paralegal clerk position at Baker Botts LLP.
  • image For a campus service scholarship, you tweak your résumé to emphasize activities more likely to interest college administrators than potential employers.
