The generation of a transgenic plant
The insertion of T-DNA into plant chromosomes. Incubation of leaf disks with the bacterium A. tumefaciens containing an engineered T-DNA leads to leaf cells with the T-DNA in their genome, which are able to grow on agar plates and can be coaxed to differentiate into transgenic tobacco plants.
