A model for recessive epistasis
Wild-type alleles of two genes (w+ and m+) encode enzymes catalyzing successive steps in the synthesis of a blue petal pigment. Homozygous m/m plants produce magenta flowers, and homozygous w/w plants produce white flowers. The double mutant w/w; m/m also produces white flowers, indicating that white is epistatic to magenta.
