Test of the mean SATM score: Significance. In Example 6.16, we tested the hypotheses
H0: μ = 485
Ha: μ > 485
concerning the mean SAT Mathematics score μ of California high school seniors. The test had the P-value P = 0.0125. This result is significant at the α = 0.05 level because 0.0125 ≤ 0.05. It is not significant at the α = 0.01 level, because the P-value is larger than 0.01. See Figure 6.14.
