Figure17-7Unemployment in the Aftermath of the 2008 Crisis After 2008, the unemployment rate increased dramatically and remained high, in both Canada and the United States. Long-term unemployment, measured by the percentage of the unemployed who were out of work for 27 weeks or longer, increased at the same time. In both cases, the U.S. experienced more pronounced increases. By 2011, almost one-quarter of all Canadian unemployed workers and half of all U.S. unemployed workers werelong-term unemployed.
