JOYCE CAROL OATES: When I first began writing, I would write a story all the way through. And then I would edit it and rewrite it. But I would always have sort of a manuscript that was completed.
But I don't really write that way any longer. I do a lot of revision as I write. So it's partly a consequence, I think, of having a computer where one can constantly rethink and revise. And so definitely my writing habits have changed over the years.
