Figure 41.15 An Allergic Reaction An allergen is an antigen that stimulates B cells to make large amounts of IgE antibodies, which bind to mast cells and basophils. When the body encounters the allergen again, these cells produce large amounts of histamine, which has harmful physiological effects.
