Most angiosperms are either monocots or eudicots

As you saw in Key Concept 28.3, most angiosperms belong to one of two major clades. Monocots are generally narrow-leaved flowering plants such as grasses, lilies, and orchids. Eudicots are broad-leaved flowering plants such as soybeans, roses, sunflowers, and maples. These two clades, which account for 97 percent of flowering plant species, differ in several basic characteristics, as shown in Figure 33.2.
