The function of the kidney relies on maintaining a constant glomerular filtration rate (GFR). The kidney maintains the GFR at approximately 120 ml/min over a wide range of conditions, including arterial pressures of between ~75 and ~200 mmHg. The GFR is maintained by vasomotor adjustments of the afferent and efferent glomerular arterioles.
