This nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is a malignant tumor arising from the mucosal epithelium of the nasopharynx, the uppermost part of the throat. NPCs can arise due to cigarette smoking or eating nitrosamine-rich foods (such as salt-cured fish) or result from an Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection.
