The EIIIB and EIIIA exons (green) encode binding domains for specific proteins on the surface of fibroblasts. The fibronectin mRNA produced in fibroblasts includes the EIIIA and EIIIB exons, whereas these exons are spliced out of fibronectin mRNA in hepatocytes.
