Think of something you might take five or ten minutes to observe—a football game, a brewing storm, an argument between friends—and write a paragraph describing your observations point by point. Use semicolons between the points. Then look at the way you used semicolons. Are there places where a period or a comma and a coordinating conjunction would better serve your meaning?
