Writers often use it, this, that, or which as a shortcut for referring to something mentioned earlier. But such shortcuts can cause confusion. Make sure that these pronouns refer clearly to a specific antecedent.
If a that or which clause refers to a specific noun, put the clause directly after the noun, if possible.
