This Roman military diploma, found in present-day Croatia, was issued February 9, 71 C.E., during the reign of Vespasian. This is the outside, with the names of witnesses inscribed on the right-hand side, and their seals attached under the removable cover of the central piece. The left-hand side lists the soldier’s tours of duty, described in more detail on the other side, which is the inside when the diploma is closed. (Brodsko Posavlje Museum)
