Xiongnu Metalwork The metal ornaments of the Xiongnu provide convincing evidence that they were in contact with nomadic pastoralists farther west in Asia, such as the Scythians, who also fashioned metal plaques and buckles in animal designs. This buckle or ornament is made of gold and is about 3 inches tall.(Belt buckle with paired felines attacking ibexes. 3rd–2nd B.C.E. Central Asia, Mongolia or southern Siberia. Gold. Gift of J.
