What factors influenced decolonization in Africa after World War II?

BBY 1964 MOST OF AFRICA had gained independence (Map 31.5). Only Portugal’s colonies and white-dominated southern Africa remained beyond the reach of African nationalists. The rise of independent states in sub-Saharan Africa came about as a reaction against Western imperialism and through the growth of African nationalism.
