FAREED ZAKARIA, Time magazine editor-at-large and host of CNN’s GPS, was briefly suspended from both Time and CNN in August 2012 when media blogs accused him of plagiarizing scholar Jill Lepore’s essay on gun control in one of his columns. Reinstated after both Time and CNN found no evidence of deliberate plagiarism, Zakaria apologized for his “terrible mistake,” which he explains came as a result of mixing up different notes from different sources. However, in 2014, the blog Our Bad Media was reporting several possible instances of additional plagiarism. These accusations underscore the potential consequences of an ethical lapse, even for journalists as high-profile as Zakaria. Photoshot/Newscom
