Since the successful release of Pokémon Go in 2016, other location-based augmented reality games have become available: SpecTrek (hunt ghosts), Real Strike (shoot guns in 3-D), Life Is Crime (join a gang and compete for territory), Zombies Everywhere! (kill zombies), Zombies, Run! (run away from Zombies), Parallel Kingdom (slay monsters), and Clandestine: Anomaly (defend the world against alien invasions).

Create Your Own Augmented Reality Game

Divide into groups of three or four and devise an original idea for a location-based augmented reality game. Since three of the biggest criticisms of the video game industry are excessive violence, misogyny, and lack of representation of minority groups, here are some rules to counteract mainstream video game narratives:

  1. Your game can have no violence.
  2. Your game should be about people, and be inclusive of all races and genders.
  3. Your game cannot fall into any misogynistic tropes.

Use the space below to record your ideas.
