Born Robert Allen Zimmerman in Minnesota, Bob Dylan took his stage name from Welsh poet Dylan Thomas. He led a folk music movement in the early 1960s with engaging, socially provocative lyrics, but later infused folk with the electric sounds of rock. He continues recording and touring today, typically spending most of April through November on the road. He was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2012.
