This video focuses on feminist theory and the mental health of women. More specifically, the speakers address how women are a marginalized group in society and how this may play a role in their mental health and presentation for therapy. Furthermore, the speakers discuss examples of how natural female physiology and women’s bodies have been problematized for generations. The defining characteristics of feminist theory are discussed in terms of both theory and application. Feminist therapy is described as an integrative model of therapy focused on the dynamic of gender and power in an individual’s presenting mental health concerns. Finally, the speakers highlight the systematic changes that need to take place to result in positive change for females in society. These changes include awareness, education, and body literacy.
