FIGURE 10.42 Research has shown that the design of some of the older wind turbines was responsible for much of the high bird mortality at the Altamont Pass Wind Resource Area. Consequently, the older wind turbines have been largely replaced by newer, taller wind turbines with fewer potential perching sites.
