Graphing Tutorial: Area Graphs Walkthrough
Area graphs are used for showing trends over time among related attributes. For example, the amount of cars sold changing within 5 years, among popular car brands. Each line on the graph represents a series of data changing over equally spaced time intervals. The area between the first plotted line and the x-axis is filled with color. Each next series of data is stacked above the previous data and the area between the current line and the previous line is filled with a different color.
- Click on the green boxes to open the text boxes for your title and axes labels.
- Once you’ve entered all three labels, an entry box will appear on the right for you to enter the metric ton values for each country.
- You must enter all of the data points for the given country before moving on to another.
- TIP:Enter the metric ton values, starting with the lowest value and proceeding to the highest for each country.
- Click Next to move to the next data point.

Once you’ve entered all five data points for all 4 countries, your area graph will appear.
- TIP:Clicking on the Clear button will clear all data from your graph.
