Type I and Type II Errors The results of a home pregnancy test are either positive (indicating pregnancy) or negative (indicating no pregnancy). If the test is positive, but the woman is not pregnant, this would be a Type I error. If the test is negative, but the woman is pregnant, this would be a Type II error. With pregnancy tests, as with hypothesis testing, people are more likely to act on a Type I error than on a Type II error. Although in the photo the line on the left is lighter than the line on the right, the pregnancy test seems to indicate that this woman is pregnant, but this could be a Type I error.
