In the preceding sections, we learned that powerful molecular techniques are available for isolating, recombining, and analyzing DNA sequences. Although these methods provide a great deal of information about the organization and nature of gene sequences, the ultimate goal of many molecular studies is to better understand the function of these sequences. In this section, we will explore some advanced molecular techniques that are frequently used to determine gene function and to better understand the genetic processes that these sequences undergo.
