By December 2011, over 235 million people (39.5 percent of the population) in Middle and South America were using the Internet; the number of users rose slightly more than 1200 percent since 2000. Argentina has the highest percentage of users (67) in South America; St. Lucia (88.5 percent) the highest in the Caribbean; and Costa Rica (43.7 percent) the highest in Middle America.
