Colombia, Peru, and Bolivia are the most important sources of cocaine cultivation and production in the world. The big cocaine markets are in the Americas; use has declined by 36 percent in the United States since 1998 and increased in South America. Cocaine use in Western Europe and West Africa is on the rise, due in part to new trade routes through West Africa to Europe.
