The World Health Organization estimates that there are 91.5 million girls and women living in Africa today who have undergone some form of FGM. Of those, 12.4 million are girls between 10 and 14 years of age. Close to half of them are in two countries: Egypt and Ethiopia. Incidences of FGM have been documented in 27 countries in Africa and in 8 other countries. There have also been some cases documented in Europe, North America, Australia, and New Zealand, which are probably due to migration.
