A fter the Revolution, Americans sought to realize some of the gains they hoped that independence would bring. Individuals and groups debated proposals for religious, social, and governmental reforms, as well as for new forms of government. These often bitter debates reflected the conflicting aspirations of Americans and their differing views of the Revolution's achievements and limitations.
