Throughout this book, we remind you about the relationship between culture and communication (particularly in Chapter 5). Next we examine particular aspects of how the cultural context shapes our language, including the relationship among culture, words, and thoughts; the relationship between gender and language; and the impact of our region (where we grew up or where we live now) on our verbal choices.
