Figure 12.6 Bark beetles. Many of these lodgepole pines in central British Columbia, Canada, have been severely damaged by bark beetles, which consume the phloem tissues of the pine trees. The mountain pine beetle (Dendroctonus ponderosae) is one of several species of bark beetles that is predicted to become more abundant with warmer global temperatures in the future.
