Two Members of the Ku Klux Klan, about 1868 During Reconstruction, Klansmen wore robes of various designs and colors. Uniform white robes came later. These counterrevolutionary terrorists fought to beat back free labor, democracy, and republicanism and to force the South back into its antebellum channels.
