Hoboes, 1920s Out-of-work men gather around a fire in front of the train that may have brought them to this unnamed place in the Midwest. With no work at home, many decided to “ride the rails” for free in search of a job. Hoboing was dangerous because of accidents and the violence of the railroad security staffs, nicknamed “bulls.”
