The Phyllis Schlafly Report Phyllis Schlafly began her newsletter in 1967. When Congress passed the ERA in 1972, the Report added antifeminism and other concerns of the religious right to its agenda. Schlafly had more than 35,000 newsletter subscribers in the mid-1970s; she also had many adversaries, including feminist leader Betty Friedan, who called her “a traitor to your sex.”
