Connecticut Church Puritans erected this church in Hartford, Connecticut, in 1636. The church displays the plain, unadorned style Puritans championed, a flagrant repudiation of the elaborate buildings and lavish ornamentation common in Anglican churches in England. Note that the church lacks even the Christian symbol of the cross.
