Revolutionary Solidarity In 1792–1793, Americans enthused by the French Revolution might accessorize with a tricolor cockade—a distinctive bow made from red, white, and blue ribbons. Parisian revolutionary fashions (as shown in this French picture) were copied and worn by women in Philadelphia and Boston. Such clothing (along with long, loose hair) made a unique and easily grasped statement about political partisanship.
