“THE P — S OF PARIS”

A British broadside of 1783 satirizes the diplomats who negotiated the Peace of Paris. The Indian declares, “I call this a Free and Independent P — s,” while the Frenchman (far right) gloats that “tho’ we have wrangled you out of America, you freely make P — s with us.” Why do you think the artist included an Indian figure? What is the point of view of this cartoon? Library of Congress.
